FirstClass supports Palm Computing connected organizers (organizers, handhelds, or devices), and other handheld devices running Palm OS 3.1 and higher, and using Palm Desktop 4.1 and higher (Windows, Mac OS, and Mac OS X).
Using the Palm HotSync® Manager 4.0 and higher (Windows), Palm HotSync® Manager 3.0 and higher (Mac OS and Mac OS X), and FirstClass Palm conduits you can bi-directionally synchronize your contact entries and calendar entries, mail, tasks, and memos between your Palm connected organizer and your FirstClass server. Synchronization can be done from any Windows, Mac OS, or Mac OS X computer that has the Palm Desktop organizer software and FirstClass Palm Sync installed. You must install the Palm Desktop on your computer before you can install the FirstClass Palm conduits.
These online help documents are intended for FirstClass users who want to use FirstClass Palm conduits to exchange information between their FirstClass Desktops and their Palm OS devices. These documents do not describe how to use the FirstClass client, install the Palm Desktop, or operate your handheld device. For that information, see our online help and applicable product documentation for your particular device.
Security considerations
Palm conduits only support the built-in security configuration on your FirstClass server. If you are unsure about security on your FirstClass site, speak with your administrator.

How FirstClass conduits work with the Palm HotSync Manager
The Palm HotSync® manager can transfer and update information between these different FirstClass and Palm/PalmOne Personal Information Management (PIM) applications.

The Mail conduit for the Palm connected organizer only transfers new (flagged) messages when you synchronize and marks these messages as read. Also, this conduit currently does not support PalmOne's VersaMail or TreoMail; it only supports the older Palm Mail application found in Palm OS 3 and Palm OS 4 devices. To synchronize with VersaMail, we recommend you use FirstClass Internet Services POP3 or IMAP4 support.

How FirstClass Contacts fields map to Palm and PalmOne
Most fields on the FirstClass and Palm/PalmOne platforms map one-to-one with these exceptions:

For best compatibility with the Palm Address Book or PalmOne Contacts applications, select the Palm or PalmOne form in your FirstClass Preferences.
Exceptions for PalmOne new PIM applications
(Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Memos)
• contact image is not synced
• birthday reminder is stored in FirstClass Contacts but has no function
• you cannot have more than one Contacts address of the same type
Addresses are stored as Work, Home, or Other.
• you can have a maximum of six phone numbers
Select from these options: two Home, two Work, one Main, one Mobile, and one Fax.
• A Palm/PalmOne event can have a maximum of 24 hours unless repeats are used
Palm will shrink to 24 hours for any FirstClass event longer than this time frame. For longer events, repeating events should be used.
• some repeatable events in the Palm calendar are not supported in FirstClass and not mapped
• limit of 32K maximum for all memos
• multiple email addresses must be semi-colon delimited and use only one address/email field on the Palm device.
Exceptions for Palm old PIM applications
(Address Book, Date Book, To Do List, Mail and Memo Pad)
• some repeatable events in the Date Book are not supported in FirstClass and are not mapped
• the completion date in a FirstClass task is not mapped
• limit of 4K maximum for all memos.
• multiple email addresses must be semi-colon delimited and use only one address/email field on the Palm device.

How to sync information
You can bi-directionally sync information from your FirstClass Desktop and your Palm device.
To sync information:
1       Enter new information on your Palm device or your FirstClass Desktop.
2       Place your Palm device in the cradle or connect your cradle.
81203_42521_14.png        Note
You can sync without using the cradle if you have a wireless Palm device that has access to a Windows desktop machine with HotSync installed. 'Network' must be enabled within the HotSync application for wireless synching to work.
3       Press the sync button on the cradle or the Hotsync icon on the Palm desktop.
After syncing, the objects on both your Palm device and your FirstClass Desktop will reflect the same information. Notice that a Memos folder is automatically placed on your FirstClass Desktop.
