About FirstClass Synchronization Services
FirstClass Synchronization Services (FCSS) is a FirstClass protocol module that enables users to synchronize their remote databases with their FirstClass information. With FCSS, users can:
•       synchronize up to four devices
•       synchronize devices over the local network
•       synchronize devices via the Internet
•       synchronize certain database entries with a particular device only
•       synchronize database entry changes made after a specified date only.
FCSS uses SyncML protocol for database synchronization. SyncML, a widely used XML protocol, is a standard for remote data synchronization across networks, platforms and devices. SyncML ensures that all corresponding entries in your local and remote databases are coordinated, reducing the need to manually transfer data and the likelihood of inconsistent data.

How database synchronization works
1       Your device connects to the synchronization server via HTTP.
2       if successful
Your device sends the following information to the Synchronization server

database name
Name of the database you wish to synchronize
(contacts, tasks, events, or notes)
userid
your login ID server
password
your login password
3       if successful
The Synchronization server authenticates the synchronization request.
4       if successful
The device sends a list of the entries that changed since the last synchronization.
5       if successful
The server fetches these entries by their local ID and determines if changes were made manually via FirstClass. The server keeps track of both local and remote IDs for this purpose.
6       If an entry changed on both the device and the server
The conflict resolution policy is enforced.
7       All other (one-sided) changes are resynchronized.

System requirements
To successfully install and use FirstClass Synchronization Services on your system, you must have installed:
•       Microsoft Windows Operating System
•       FirstClass 8.3 (or higher) Internet Services
•       FirstClass 8.3 (or higher) client.

Mobile device requirements
To synchronize your remote databases to your FirstClass account using FCSS, your device must be:
•       GPRS enabled
or
support WiFi/WLAN data communication
•       SyncML compliant
If your mobile device does not have SyncML installed, you will need to configure a SyncML client before it can be used with FCSS. Most newer cell phone models have a SyncML client pre-installed. Contact your manufacturer for access and setup instructions.
•       capable of manual setup

Devices relying only on OTA provisioning for SyncML configuration are not supported by FCSS.
